مطابق بند ۳-۱-۴-۹ استاندارد NFPA 13 ، اسپرینکلر بالازن بایستی به گونه‌ای نصب شود که بازوهای فریم آن موازی با شاخه باشد، مگر برای جهت خاص دیگری فهرست شده باشند.
علت بند بالا، کاهش موانع در برابر الگوی پاشش آب تخلیه شده از اسپرینکلر بالازن می‌باشد.

۹-۴-۱-۳* Upright sprinklers shall be installed with the frame arms parallel to the branch line, unless specifically listed for other orientations.
A.9.4.1.3 The purpose of this requirement is to minimize the obstruction of the discharge pattern.
The sprinkler’s frame arm and the piping below the sprinkler both represent potential obstructions to the water distribution pattern and can prevent a uniform spray pattern. Even though the frame arm is designed to minimize such obstructions, the potential for obstruction cannot be completely eliminated. Installation of an upright sprinkler with its frame arm parallel to the branch line aligns the two obstructions and thereby minimizes the overall effect on the distribution pattern.
